Lyndon Baglin was born in Berry Hill, Gloucestershire into a brass band family. He started learning to play the piano at the age of eight, something he continued to do until he was 12 years old. When he then preferred to play in brass bands. He joined Lydbrook Band in 1949 as the assistant 3rd cornet and received lessons from the band's conductor Neville Barnett. It was not long after that he changed his cornet, initially for a baritone. His introduction to play the euphonium came in 1951 when his family moved to Stonehouse and he and his father joined the Stroud and District Band.
In 1960 he accepted the position of solo euphonium with the CWS (Manchester) Band and enjoyed a successful period with the band under the direction of Alex Mortimer. Playing at CWS also meant he had to work for the Co-op and his engineering qualifications gave him the opportunity of accepting a job in the CWS Engineering Department.
In 1961 Lyndon was Champion Soloist of Great Britain and a member of the CWS (Manchester) quartet party, who were also awarded the title of Champion Quartet. In 1966 came a short stay at Black Dyke Mills Band on baritone and then Eb bass, but in April 1967 he was invited to join the Brighouse and Rastrick Band as its solo euphonium. Lyndon stayed with the band until 1970 when he was invited to join the Stanshawe Band.
It was after a period with the Fairey Engineering Band that he decided to apply himself to conducting. Over a period of several years he took Lydbrook Band from the third section to the championship section. In 1970 at the Royal Albert Hall he was very proud to receive the Insignia of Honour for his service to brass bands.
In 1988 he announced his was returning to playing and joined the Cory Band, and then three years later he re-joined the Sun Life Band which was in fact a newly named Stanshawe Band.
In 1992 he decided to retire from full time playing, but since then he has regularly been asked to be a guest player on both euphonium and Eb bass, and to be a guest euphonium soloist both as a concert performer and for CD recordings.
